This month is all about procrastination. How have you been doing on beating your procrastination monster? I am going to go over another way in which you can beat this monster and keep him at bay. Procrastination is a nasty habit that robs us of a lot more than we think it does. You will see that once you have overcome your bad habit of procrastination, you will find that you have more free space in your day and also in your mind.
We avoid doing things because of the negative feelings we get toward that certain task. We find any kind of excuse we can think of to NOT do what ever it is that needs doing. What we need to learn how to do is turn that around. Instead, take some time and think about why you are going to enjoy the activity, even if it is just simply the outcome that makes you feel inspired.
State your good reasons out loud and affirm why you should start right now. Say you are procrastinating about exercising, you can say something like, “I enjoy working out because it makes me feel really good, I can release all my tension, and I get a great endorphin rush!” Now, after you have stated your reason out loud, take a few minutes to visualize the outcome in your mind. As with exercise, you can visualize yourself with a firm, strong and healthy body. Imagine that you have plenty of energy to do everything you have to do the rest of the day without feeling the least bit tired. Visualize yourself in great looking clothes and feeling great in them. After you spend a few minutes visualizing you will make the task more of a priority.
Using positive affirmations aloud can also help you feel good about the task that needs done. You can say things like, “I want to do this. I can do this. I deserve to do this. I am powerful enough to create the life I want. I refuse to be held back by my fears and negative habits. I am capable of so much more than I’ve done so far. No matter how successful I get, there is always room for improvement and growth. Yes I can, yes I can, yes I can!” Using affirmations like this, you will feel your desire to complete your task grow stronger, and your excitement build, and you will actually look forward to taking the steps you need to take to complete the task at hand.
So, you see, you can overcome your procrastination! All you need to do is find the positive in the situation and run with it. No matter how bad the task at hand may seem, I’m sure you can find a positive that you can repeat aloud to keep you motivated to keep going and finish those unfinished projects!
