We all know that keeping New Year’s resolutions are extremely hard and many people don’t keep them past a few weeks. Everyone has the right idea, but we all go about it the wrong way. I want to go over some tips on how you can ensure that your business resolutions will be lasting changes.
1. Set Realistic Goals Every Month
Remember that you cannot change your business overnight. You need to take baby steps and they need to be attainable. Sit down at the beginning of every month and set a realistic goal for your business. Work that goal all month long and hopefully it’s one you can accomplish in 30 days. At the end of the year you and your business will have come a long way.
2. Keep your Resolutions in Site Always
Don’t write them all out at the beginning of January and then just shove them in a drawer. Keep them out where you and others can see them. This will keep you accountable to them and also keep them in mind daily.
3. Be Sure the Resolution Has Meaning
You want to be sure that the resolutions that you have really mean something to you. Don’t pick one just because others are choosing that or because your friends and family think you should. This is your business and your passion so choose what you are passionate about and you are more likely to keep them.
4. Reward Yourself
Be sure to reward yourself each time you achieve one of your goals. Have the reward be something you truly want. This way you have something fun and exciting to look forward to each time you reach one of your goals.
5. Visualize the End Result
Make time to just sit and visualize what it will look like when you reach a certain goal. If it would help, make a vision board with quotes, pictures, words etc. to help motivate you. Keep this where you can see it every day.
Take time to plan out your resolutions. Don’t wait until the last minute when you are rushed and just trying to come up with something. You need a clear head to think about all the changes you want to make and to write out your plan of action.
7. Seek out Support
This could be a friend, a coach, an online forum, just someplace that you can receive motivation when things are going the way you wanted them too. Everyone goes through though times and it’s nice to have someone there to be accountable to. They will encourage you to keep going when really all you feel like doing it crawling back into bed.
8. Invest in Yourself
Don’t let yourself get burnt out before the year is over. Be sure you are keeping a healthy balance between work, family and yourself. Take the time to eat right, exercise, spend time with your family and spend time enjoying the things you love to do.
