At great way to decluttered your home is to have a garage sale. I know this can seem overwhelming but if you take it in small chunks you should be able to sort through everything in no time. Having a garage sale will help put money into your pocket and space back into your home. I am going to go over some tricks and tips to help you declutter your home and have a very successful garage sale.
1. Top to Bottom
The best way to begin is at the top of your home and move to the bottom. So, start with the attic and move down. Don’t skip the attic, even if you are very tempted because many times there is a treasure trove of things that you can sell in a garage sale. Go through everything, remember the main goal is to declutter your home. As you move down from the attic, move to the bedrooms, then your main floor and finally the basement. Know it will take a while to go through each room, so begin cleaning and sorting well in advance of the sale date.
2. Put Items in Piles
A great trick I learned when cleaning for a garage sale is to put things into three piles. One pile is things you are keeping, the second is things for your sale, the third is for trash. Be ironfisted about the decisions in what will stay or go. Throw items away that are broken and cannot be repaired, no one wants to buy junk just like you don’t want to keep junk. As you are going through your home, move the items for your sale into the garage. This will help you see how far you are coming along.
Once you have finished and everything is in the garage, reevaluate everything that remains. You just might find some things that you have changed your mind about and want to put in the garage sale pile. Don’t hesitate to add to your sale pile. Everything that leaves your home will add more space to it so that you can better organize your home. The bigger your garage sale pile, the more money you will make.
You are going to find that all this hard work is well worth it. Once you have everything out of your home, you are going to be amazed at how much more organized your house is. Have more space in your home actually frees up a lot of inner emotional space too. You will feel more relaxed at home with everything now in its place. You should also notice that you are a lot less stressed and that you actually enjoy being at home.
