Time management doesn’t need to be a scary thing. It is basically learning how to manage your personal time so you begin by managing your own personal time. Learning effective time management is about consistently learning and then applying the method. Here are some ways you can achieve and make time management a lifetime habit.
Plan and Prioritize
First, make a list of all your tasks that need to be done in one day. A great way to accomplish this is with a To-Do list. A To-Do list is the most simple and effective tool that you can use to effectively manage your time. Simply divide your list into major and minor tasks.
Focus and Set Goals
Once you have your major and minor tasks listed, you now need to allocate a reasonable time to complete each task. Think of the end goal you want to achieve. Break down your main goal into smaller tasks and set target times of when you need to complete each smaller task. By setting clear goals, you will be able to avoid all those unnecessary factors that come up while trying to complete each task.
Remember the word SMART:
You may think this sounds difficult and complicated, but beating the habit of procrastination is learning how to say no. Self control is the key! Identify any bad habits and then work hard to overcome them. The habit of procrastination will impede everything you have worked so hard for. It can delay your important tasks for those that are unnecessary. Doing this on a long term basis can become a very destructive practice. Procrastination leads to you being less productive and could maim your chances towards success.
Review and Ponder
A great way to get going is at the end of each day re-evaluating your day’s work. Take the time to enjoy the satisfaction of having completed your tasks. Ask yourself questions. Did I achieve my goals for today? If not, how could I have completed them? Did something get in the way? Was it to large to complete in one day? Maybe you need to break down the goal even more.
Once you have decided to really crack down on your time management, keep the process going. Continuously review and update your To-Do list. As time goes by, learning time management skills will make you a lot more productive with a lot less effort and you will get the most out of your life!
