Do you long to be successful yet you just are not sure where to start? Do you feel like you are stuck in life right now? Do you feel unsettled, knowing you can do more yet you’re not sure what to do to make that happen? If you are looking for deep fulfillment in your life and you long for real success, then you should have a life purpose statement. A life purpose statement is the key to success because knowing your life purpose is going to give you a sense of clarity in what you need to achieve along with a sense of direction in where to begin and the motivation to make it all happen.
How to find your life purpose
Your life purpose is knowing what brings you joy, what all your gifts are and how you can impact other people. You can find your life purpose by using this 4 step method.
Think about all the times in your life when you truly felt joyful and in the flow. These experiences can be from your relationships, your education, your professional life, your leadership activities, your community service or your personal development work.
Make sure you are looking beyond your workplace, especially if you’re not very fulfilled by your career. Go all the way back to your childhood and try to remember what games you loved to play. Take a look at your hobbies and everything that you wish you could spend your time doing. Choose three to five experiences that represent you at your very best.
2. Talents, Impact and Passions
Look for patterns in your experiences. Find the top two talents that you have used in your moments of joy. Thank about how they reflect your passions. Consider how you made an impact on people in all these experiences. Maybe your experiences show a pattern of talent or creativity for leadership or a desire to make a change in the world in ways that are meaningful to you. That is you at your very best.
3. The World is a Great Place
Once you know your passions, talents and how you are going to impact others, the next step is to imagine the world as a great place. This is a great way to get out of the box and think really big. What is your role in making the world a great place? Why is this important to you?
Maybe when you are doing this exercise, you can hear the voice of your internal censor telling you that you can’t possibly make living making the world a greater place. Know this voice and tell it to get lost! Listening to this voice is one of the main reasons people stay in relationships and careers that don’t fulfill them. If you’re committed to making a life you want, this voice needs to go!
4. Your Life Purpose Statement
Fill in this sentence with what you have learned so far.
“My purpose in life is to use my (top two talents) to (how you impact others) in order to (how you want to make the world a great place) because (why it’s important to you).”
How to Use Your Life Purpose Statement
Congratulations! You now have your life purpose statement and it reflects how you want to use your talents toward impacting other people in a way that is most important to you. Knowing your life purpose might inspire you to find a new career where you can use your creative talents, as well as your leadership and expertise abilities in the service of your mission. Armed with a clear mission, you’ll be more motivated to find new opportunities and achieve fulfillment that is currently missing in your life today.
